Now is your chance to join our high performing team. The Dexter Area Fire Department has immediate openings for full-time fire fighters. We are looking for motivated and community-oriented individuals who are committed to providing the best possible service to the citizens we protect through active participation in both emergency and non-emergency activities.

The Dexter Area Fire Department will be accepting applications for Entry Level Firefighters beginning Friday, June 2, 2023 – Thursday August 31, 2023. This process will be used to hire and establish an eligibility list for a 1-year period. Duties of a firefighter include work in the protection of life and property; to operate and assist in maintaining equipment, apparatus, and facilities; and participation in rescue and fire prevention activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
· U.S. Citizen
· Minimum 18 years of age
· High school diploma or GED
· Valid driver's license, in good standing
· Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council Fire Fighter 2 certification
· EMT-B or higher License recognized in the State of Michigan
· Hazardous Materials Operations Level Training certification
· Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council Drivers Training Certification
· Written exam through EMPCO* with a 70% or above
· Prior to being hired, candidate must pass and complete a Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) or BPAT, physical exam, drug, psychological and respirator fit tests and extensive background check

*All applicants must create a profile and then register and take the written exam to be administered by Empco, Inc. Go to Empco’s website   to register for the written exam and pay the exam fee. Applicants must complete the online profile and have a current score as of Thursday, August 31, 2023. Test scores with Empco are active for one year. Questions regarding the written exam should be directed to EMPCO at empco.net

Paid-On-Call

We have immediate openings for Paid on Call (POC) fire fighters and will provide training upon successful hire. 

Paid on Call Qualifications:

• US Citizen
• Minimum 18 years of age
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license, in good standing

Upon receiving a Conditional Offer of Employment, all applicants must have the following additional qualifications:

• Health and physical capacity for the position for which the applicant is applying as determined by an examining physician
• Will be required to take a psychological exam
• Pass a background check

All new POC employees are required to obtain Michigan Firefighter I & II certification
including hazmat operations and awareness within two years of employment. In addition, you must obtain a State of Michigan medical license at the level of Medical First Responder or higher.
